Old Town
Old Town Florence
is the quintessential coastal village. Walk along the Siuslaw
River while enjoying a hot latte, and mosey in one of the many
unique gift shops. Located on the
waterfront below Highway 101's Siuslaw River Bridge, this un-crowded
district
is
the perfect

and specialty shops, wine tasting and restaurants serving regional
foods and wines.
Pick Blackberries,
Blueberries, Goosberries and MORE!
Summer
is a great time to visit, as the berries are everywhere! Go for
a hike and forage for berries. Kid's love this activity. Freeze
the extras to bring home with you!
Sand Dunes
Looking across
the Siuslaw river, you will see majestic sand dunes. Massive sand
dunes characterize the area around Florence. Located on the northern
edge of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area (ODNRA), Florence
is best known for the hiking, bird watching, horse back and dune
buggy riding activities available in the dunes. The ODNRA contains
some of the largest oceanfront dunes in the world, ranging up to
500 feet high and forming banks up to three miles deep. The Oregon
dunes are the largest expanse of coastal sand dunes in the U.S.,
and stretch for 50 miles between Florence and Coos Bay.
Heceta Lighthouse
Heceta Head's light first shone in March of 1894, 205 feet above
sea level and visible for over 21 miles. One thousand barrels of
blasting powder were required to create a flat table on the rocky
cliffs. Heceta remained an extremely isolated outpost until the 1930's
when road crews arrived with their families and tents to construct
Route 101, the Pacific Coast Highway.
Lakes/Fishing
Siltcoos Lake- 4 miles S. of Florence Fabulous fishing with many
fishing cabins located around the lake. Fish for bass, trout, perch,
crappie, catfish year round. Or try your hand during steelhead and
salmon season.
Woahink Lake
- 3 miles S. of Florence. Beautiful lake with lovely picnicking
area. Boating,
wind sailing, water skiing, bird watching,
swimming, and fishing.
Honeyman
Park - Situated half way up the Oregon coast and three
miles south of Florence on scenic Highway 101 is the second largest
overnight camp in the state. There are two miles of sand dunes
between the park and the ocean. Two natural freshwater lakes are
within the park. Cleawox -- which is great for swimming -- and
Woahink, which has a public boat ramp, is used for all water sports.
Rent a canoe and explore the lake.
Spring brings out the pink rhododendrons. Come
summertime, this is a great place for family reunions. The fall
huckleberries
and blackberries are ripe for the picking.
Seal Caves
11 miles north of Florence, barking sea lions echo
in the large marine cave at the base of the cliff. You can descend
through the cliff by elevator to a viewing area. Most of the sea
lions stay inside the cave during stormy weather, but when the sun
comes out, they assemble on a long rocky ledge outside or frolic
in the waves.
In
the distance, from the Seal caves, you can see Heceta lighthouse.
This is the most photographed lighthouse in the United States.
